In preparation for the Iowa City Council elections, November 5, Iowa City Climate Advocates is pleased to present Iowa City Council Meet the candidates night at 7PM Wednesday Oct 16 in the Iowa City Council Chambers What: Meet the Candidates for Iowa City Council Night When: Wednesday Oct 16, 7PM Where: Iowa City Council Chambers, 410 E Washington Street Because we are a climate advocacy group, the evening will be geared towards illuminating the candidates positions on environmental and sustainability issues in Iowa City. We have submitted the following question to each of the candidates and asked them to respond: What is Iowa City government currently doing to reduce greenhouse gases produced by city residents, businesses, and visitors? Do you think its efforts are sufficient, and if not, what do you think the city should be doing differently or in addition? For example, do you think Iowa City should (like Portland, Boulder and Seattle) plan to become a carbon neutral city (zero net emissions of greenhouse gases) by 2050? Do you think local building codes and tax policies (including Tax Increment Financing) should subsidize/require reductions in carbon emissions? Where do you stand on proposals to raise Dubuque St. to prevent it being flooded? Do you see any alternatives? Where do you stand on the replacement of the Park Road Bridge?
