All sound stopped. Everything was still, as if someone bumped into - TopicsExpress

All sound stopped. Everything was still, as if someone bumped into a mute button. The silence ended when the hillside melted. Boulders exploded into homes. People screamed. On every night since Jan. 10, 2005, Barb and Mike Bell go to sleep with the television running. Often, it’s tuned to “Murder She Wrote.” The volume is never turned all the way down. “I don’t handle the quiet. I haven’t since then,” said Barb, who for years avoided looking at the scarred hill when she drove into town. “For a long time you just didn’t look that way.” Subscribers can visit vcstar to hear from other La Conchita residents who experienced the 2005 landslide that claimed 10 lives.
