All supporters 1. We need to have an important discussion in the New Year about how to tackle austerity in Wales. Weve tried to turn our petition calling on Assembly members to vote no to the budget and challenge the Tory government into a referendum on austerity in Wales. Around 1600 people have signed it which is excellent and thanks very much for all your support. However signing has dropped off since the Assembly agreed to implement a cuts budget. Do we continue with trying to turn it into a referendum or stop and consider another initiative? 2. We could organise another 38 Degrees petition calling on all councillors in Wales to vote no to their cuts budgets as the horrors of austerity are revealed across our country? 3. We agreed to have another Peoples Assembly Wales conference in Cardiff in January - will the 24 January be OK? 4. We will continue to expose the cuts decisions as councils across Wales proposed them. In some areas like Cardiff anti cuts campaigns are well underway but other information is patchy. We do need reports from across Wales with contact information: urgently. One for all of you - just let us know through this FB page. 5. It isnt just council cuts hit by austerity but the NHS and everyone affected by UK government welfare cuts as well - so we do need to hear from all anti austerity campaigns. 6. Running up to the January meeting we need to consider how we can unite the actions of trade union members and community anti cuts campaigns with the aim of taking some coordinated action across Wales. This is important as it keeps the pressure up on the Tory government who are implementing Tory policies and on our AMs and councillors to stand and fight. We need to combat the arguments about just saving one service and cut another or that recourse to judicial review is the only way. United direct action across Wales would have a galvanising effect - Ive just been supporting the general strike in Belgium so I know it can be done. Do you agree with this strategy? Just some initial thought to keep the brain working over the holiday season:) Seasonal greetings Len Arthur - convenor Peoples Assembly Wales https://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/stop-austerity-cuts-in-wales-rhowch-stop-ar-doriadau-llym-yng-nghymru?source=facebook-share-button&time=1413209857
