Allow me this: Pay Respects to the Passing of a Medal of Honor Hero You are 20 years old, it is Nov 1967. You are critically wounded and in fear of dying somewhere in the tall grass of the forsaken Central Highlands of Viet Nam. The enemy fire is so close and intense your CO has ordered the Medivacs to stop coming in. As the world starts to fade around you, ... you know this is the day. Then over the chaos and noise you hear so faintly: thump -a- thump -a- thump –a- thump -a- thump -a- thump, Oh God, it can’t be. You look up, and through the wind and grass in your eyes, you see the belly of a slick. You hear the crack-pop of Charlie’s fire turn its attention to the bird. Captain Ed Freeman is coming in for you. He’s not marked as a Medivac,. He heard the prick 77 and decided: He’s coming for you into that hot LZ. The slick bumps in amongst the gun and crew chief helps load you and two of your mates, one at a time: –a- thump -a- thump –a- thump -a- thump -a- thump. The sound gets faster and louder. Captain Ed and his crew lift off and the sound of enemy gun fire fades –a- thump -a- thump -a- thump. You arrive in safety to the waiting doctors and nurses. Captain Ed returns to the LZ. He did this 13 more times that day until all the wounded were out. No one knew until the mission was over that the Captain had been hit 4 times in the legs and left arm. He evaced 28 and you out that day. Some would not have made it without the Captain and his Huey. Medal of Honor Recipient, Captain Ed Freeman, United States Air Force, died last Wednesday at the age of 70, in Boise , Idaho. May God Bless and Rest His Soul. I bet you didnt hear about this heros passing, but weve sure seen a whole bunch about the thug Michael Brown, Trayvon Martin, and the government shut down. We heard ZIP about the passing of Medal of Honor winner Captain Ed Freeman, a hero. It’s disgusting and indicative of all values and thanks that have been warped. May he rest in peace, and the love of his fellow combat mates keep him. Lest We Forget. https://youtube/watch?v=N7qkQewyubs
