Alrighty guys time to get serious here for a second. I hate - TopicsExpress

Alrighty guys time to get serious here for a second. I hate posting drama type things here but I feel like this post could help someone else not become a victim. Please read through the entire thing (sorry it’s so long) and share around to help me get the word out. Back on October 11th I went to a concert/cosplay contest called Party Madness 64 hosted by Ghostlight Concerts (I couldnt tag their page for some reason). I was so excited to go because I was planning on competing with my Athena cosplay for the $750 grand prize. This was also the first ever time my father had come to an event with me and seen me dressed up in a cosplay competing due to health issues. My father and I enjoyed the various bands that played and were having a great time. The cosplay contest started up and I got nervous as I do before ever competition I have entered. There were about 10-15 other contestants dressed up and in line to walk on stage. It may have been a smaller competition but the other contestants were strong and boasted elaborate cosplays. To my surprise I won the contest, I had to fight back tears knowing my father was watching me and had just seen me win the biggest cash prize I had ever won while competing. The contest ended and my dad came up to me and told me how proud he was of me and that now he understands why I spend so much time on this hobby. As I looked around there was no one to hand me my prize I had just won. I asked the mc about it and she was very helpful and went off to find the gentleman who was in charge of the entire show. After about 15 minutes a Ghostlight concerts co-owner CHRIS CAMP came up to me. He told me that the prize check would be mailed out to me on Monday. He took down all of my information on a small piece of paper and right after tried to walk away. I asked him for a card or his information so I could contact him incase anything happened. He didn’t have a card (which was odd for the co-owner of a company) so he ripped a small corner off of the VIP sheet at the front host stand and proceeded to write down his information. I did not feel comfortable with this situation from the beginning. I had only ever competed in four other cosplay competitions but every time they handed the winners their prizes immediately after the contest. So against my better judgment I left the show hoping that a company as reputable as Ghostlight concerts would send out the prize on Monday like I was told. I emailed CHRIS CAMP on Sunday just to double check that he had the correct address and I never got a response, so I contacted him through Facebook. He responded the following day and said he had his assistant taking it to be sent that day. Weeks went by and I got excuse after excuse as to why it had not been sent out yet until finally he just stopped responding (even though it showed he had still been reading my messages). It has now been about two months since the show and I haven’t heard from him or any business partners who intend to give me my prize from the contest. (see screen shots of messages below) I am now confident in the fact that I will never be given my prize money and I have been ripped off by Ghostlight concerts and CHRIS CAMP. Dealing with this whole ordeal over the past 2 months has been particularly stressful on me because I am moving out of the country in just two months. I have a full time job I work hard but this money could have really helped me establish myself in my new home. Because of this whole situation I will never compete in a cosplay contest again, it just wouldn’t be worth the stress of going through this all over again. However, for cosplayers who do go out and compete in cosplay competitions be careful and don’t be naïve as I once was. People will scam and take advantage of you if you give them the opportunity. If you enter a competition be wary of the company hosting the event and always make sure a cash or gift card type prize is always handed to you at the event. We work hard on our cosplays, even spending hundreds of dollars on them. Do not let anyone take advantage of you. Thanks for reading.
