Although I have never considered myself a hard co Star Wars fan the trailer for the new film has given me a rise if anything for. 1. it is being directed by J.J. Abrams an extremely talented director and story teller who has done an incredible job with rebooting the Star trek series with flair and excellent story telling. And yes the scene of the Millennium Falcon flying through the sky kind of gives any baby boomer a rush. However though...... if it was not for Akira Kurosawas 1959 film The Hidden Fortress Star Wars may not really exist......In fact George Lucas has spoken on record he was inspired by that film.. Many people have made comment that Star Wars is a western themed plot which may very be true...... oddly enough Akira Kurosawa and the Legendary American director John Ford were close friends not only personally but professionally ........Kurosawa admired Ford and his usage of horses in The Hidden Fortress was inspired by Fords westerns. Ford by the way loved the Hidden fortress.... thus ties together in a rather off beat six degrees of separation sort of way the George Lucas.......Hidden Fortress.......Akira Kurosawa......John Ford.......Western mythos connection of all concerned..... Check out Kurosawas The Hidden fortress in fact two of the characters in the story are the inspiration for C3PO and R2D2..... believe it or not..... https://youtube/watch?v=OMOVFvcNfvE
