Although it was a short Village Board meeting tonight (less than 1/2 hour), there was some really good information shared. There was great news with regards to the recent criminal activity which has taken place. Village Board Meeting 01-06-15 Mayor: Special recognition was awarded to this year’s Wauconda Holiday Walk “Letter to Santa” winner which earned a place on Santa’s “Nice List” for Maddie S. She was selected as this year’s winner as she best exemplified the true spirit of Christmas with coordinating a donation of 5,000 books to Bernie’s Book Bank. She was awarded a certificate and had her picture taken with the Mayor. The Mayor offered the Village’s condolences to the Buschick family for the passing of Rosemary and Chuck Buschick and asked that we keep them in our thoughts and prayers. PUBLIC COMMENTS • Beth Ann Beasley: She discussed the new hand out for rules regards public comments. She mentioned that this is not available on line nor in the lobby for residents to access. Also, the public comment section on the agenda has not been updated to reflect this information. OLD BUSINESS • Trustee Arnswald stated there were numerous corrections needed to several meeting minutes that were up for approval. All corrections had to do with the motions and seconds. It was approved by the board to table for now and correct. NEW BUSINESS • Doug: The corridor study which was previously approved by board was submitted to IDOT and they approved approximately 99% of the study and are ready to proceed. Project cost will be $38,525 with cost to the Village of $3,500.00 The board approved the ordinance to proceed with the project which will improve the intersection of Route 176 and Brown Street. It will be a 3 way with turn lanes with the expansion potential for a 4 way for future growth. The Trustees were in agreement as this improvement is critical towards the Village’s economic development initiative. Time frame: IDOT will assign a request for qualification for design and implementation in 2017 or 2018. • Trustee Barbini: He brought up his concern with the intersection at Anderson & 59. He stated this is very dangerous intersection. Although it is not the responsibility of the Village, can we lobby for turn lanes as our residents use this road as a cut through and concerned with their safety. Doug will gather statistics to present to IDOT and will proceed from there. MAYOR/TRUSTEE/COMMITTEE/STAFF/ADMIN REPORTS Mayor: The second Governance Session will take place next week. Trustee Starkey: There was Communications meeting held tonight. She thanked the Public Works for retaining wall for Gateway sign. She asked Chris about the easement approval and Chris stated we are still waiting for a response. She discussed the Village Website as there are several errors and omissions. There will be a special meeting held (to be determined) to meet with Civic Plus to redesign the website. This will allow the staff to quickly update and make changes vs our current situation. It will also be more cost effective. She also asked about the Finance Director position and the Mayor responded “Thursday”. I missed whether there will be interviews on Thursday or if a director will be selected. Trustee Starkey addressed Chief Yost and asked about the criminal activity in our area (broken vehicle windows). The Chief responded that the PD has very good leads and feel they have a good handle on the situation. Trustee Black asked if it would make sense to notify the areas affected. He stated it wouldn’t make sense to use the service that notifies all residents so it doesn’t cause a panic however it would be good to notify those that are affected or have the potential of being affected. Chief Yost responded that the PD is working on implementing a means for mass communication so they can reach out to specific identified groups/areas. Trustee Starkey asked the Chief about Naloxone training. The Chief responded the on 2/15 trainer the trainers will take place so they can start to implement training to the Officers. They will then be able to proceed with carrying and administering Naloxone. Trustee Arnswald: Thank you to Trustee Black and Brad Fink for keeping the electronic recycling program in Wauconda. Brad elaborated and stated the Township will be one of the sites that service will keep as a collection point. He also asked about closed sessions meeting notes. Gina (Village Clerk) stated she was having difficulty with transmitting these notes to Rudy however she had hard copies with her to provide to Rudy for approval. Trustee Black: Asked the Chief Yost about the incinerator. The Chief responded he is waiting for first opportunity for public demo which will be at one of the upcoming United Partnership meetings. Trustee Black also asked if we are proceeding with identifying if any other villages would like to use our incinerator service. The Chief responded that he has contacted Tower Lakes, Island Lake, Hawthorne Woods and Lake Zurich. He stated he did not contact Lakemoor as they have their own. He stated that there is an interest out there for these villages to use our services. Trustee Black to Brad Fink: How are we on road salt? Brad responded that we used very little in the month of December. He compared to snowfall to last year’s December’s snowfall at 27 inches. We currently have 18-19 hundred tons – the salt dome is almost full. He stated we are in good shape. We can order up to 120% however since salt pricing is so expensive right now, he would like to stay at around 80% Trustee Black also thanked the Public Works Department as they do a wonderful job keeping our streets clean. He mentioned that when you head out of Wauconda you definitely notice the difference in how well our roads are taken care of vs other communities.
