(Amanda Conner from an interview): I think it’s important for us that she [Harley Quinn] becomes her own person in her own new neighborhood and not to make her victim-y at all. The Joker was really mean to her. He was not a good boyfriend. He was not good for her. Me (this barely scratches the surface, btw): The Joker is not nice to anyone. Not even to himself. It is so immensely beside the point that he always be nice to Harley or a good boyfriend. Thats not a Joker that we Joker fans even really care to see. The point is that what they ARE is unique, daring and interesting, warts and all, and whatever small sense of care and comaraderie the Joker CAN muster is directed at Harley; is drawn out of him by the power of who Harley is. To believe otherwise is to diminish her. And anything outside of Joker being nice Harley can generally manage and always has. Knowing who shes chosen, being with who shes chosen and who has chosen her, and knowing how much SHE has affected HIM and NOT just the other way around... THAT is what keeps her from being a victim. Not the fans and writers who think they know whats better for her than what she wants just because shes sweet and pretty and cant possibly know what shes doing. Their relationship is not one-sided and not about being unrequited, and to assume so has always been a dead end for both characters and all the amazing story potential that they have together thats only barely been tapped. Im so fed up with these kinds of interpretations of them, you guys...
