Devotees of the Pookkode Devi temple nearby Amritapuri requested Amma to come and bless the commencement of their annual weeklong recitation of the Srimad Bhagavatam on Friday, January 2, 2014. In her address, Amma said, “Among the Puranas, the Srimad Bhagavatam is the greatest. There is no other book which has combined bhakti (devotion), Vedanta (knowledge of the Upanishads), and mukti (liberation) in such a simple way and made it available to the world. Beyond that, ideas about the nature of the universe and other deep and subtle principles are hidden within this book.” Amma lit the inaugural lamp for the weeklong ceremony and performed arati to the Devi murti in the temple.
