An update from Peter (Monday 4 November). After Dave left to continue the walk to Finisterra, I remained in Santiago de Compostela and visited some more of the cultural sites, including a convent which had the highest stone walls to keep the outside world out! After a dry run to the autobus staton (as I had to negotiate my way through the narrow lane ways of Santiago the next morning), I had a quick tapas meal then back to my Pension. This morning I brought a ticket at the bus station to travel to Finisterra, a quoted 3.5 hours trip (13E, about $18 - so inexpensive). As I walked to the bus station light rain was falling, and shortly after the Heavens opened. It rained heavily most of the way to Finisterra The bus route picks up passengers along the route, however we had a good run and were there in 3 hours. Too bad if you were hoping to catch the bus en route and referring to a timetable. You could have missed it by some considerable minutes. The ride took me through areas affected by bush fires (gum trees) earlier this year on both sides of the main road and right up to the sea in some stages. The local CFA equivalent must have been very effective as I saw trees burnt in/around villages but no houses destroyed. Finesterra is a costal town, and considered the end of the earth by past civilisations. A pleasant town, but certainly not a tourist attraction as such, except for the setting sun over the Atlantic. Of course, not tonight, or for the next few days - total cloud cover. It is a town that is closing down for the winter. Tomorrow Muxia.
