An year ago, today was a day that changed our lives forever as our little firestorm Mathews came into this world much earlier than we expected. What was supposed to be a joyous occasion was turned our world up side down. At only 26 weeks gestation this fragile baby came to us so vulnerable with cries that mirrored the sounds of a kitten at only 900g you could not take your own breaths requiring a machine to sustain your frail life and an incubator to keep you warm and sheltered. Your eyes were fused shut since you were not supposed to be here, thick hair covered your body since you were supposed to still be growing inside moms womb.You were half in length on the palm of your dad. You had a lot of issues and your entire body was connected to lot of machines through tubes and wires..You required numerous transfusions since your body was too sick to make its own, then your hole in your heart would not close. When you opened your eyes it was also the beginning to your journey on keeping your vision as the retinopathy of prematurity worsened from the oxygen the was keeping you alive. Everyday we spent with you was filled with immense love not knowing if there would be another day to look at your precious face. Then couple weeks on this roller coaster ride you called life the doctors told us your hole in your heart had to be operated on by an open heart surgery. But you were feisty and you would show is you were here to stay, within a week after that, all the tubes that were pierced into every part of your body were removed slowly as you got better and showed us you were here to stay. Your little lungs did not go unharmed as the very machine that kept you alive can wreck your lungs. You survived from the proteins that were to give you sustainable on this challenging journey could also damage your liver and finally the hole in your heart that contaminating your blood was micrally closed. We really saw God working on you.We met God directly near your incubator..Your ups became more frequent than your downs and nearly 3 months after you were born we were able to bring you home! You are so very special to us more than you know, you have completed our family with your infectious smile and your friendly disposition. You are our second angel, our fighter, our inspiration and most of all you are our heart. By this whole year you conquered the hearts of not only us, but also your brother, grandparents, cousins, relatives and who ever got chance to meet you. We are so honored to be your parents and you have brought us all so much joy and taught us the greatest lesson of all, that life is fleeting and to live life to the fullest everyday. We love you so much and we are looking forward to a lifetime of happy moments, joyous laughter and that smile that is brighter than the sun! Xxoo happy birthday our sweet baby Mathews..
