Anambra Guber elections has come and gone, with APGAs Willie - TopicsExpress

Anambra Guber elections has come and gone, with APGAs Willie Obiano declared winner. But we want to bring out five key issues we noticed from the election. 1. There is any increase in the number of youths that contested the election. Four candidates that contested the election were below 40 years, with PDPs Tony Nwoye being the best performer by coming second. This feat is encouraging to all youths to contest elective posts in their different states and localities. There is Hope for the Nigerian youth. 2. Large number of youths sold their future for meagre sum of money. We witnessed at some of the polling units we visited, Nigerian youths who were coerced to exchange their vote for meagre sums ranging from 250# to 5000# by party agents. Nigerian youths sold their conscience for nothing, due to poverty, thereby making our leaders irresponsible to us when elected. One of the youths when asked why he was selling his vote, answered, wetin concern me? abeg make them give me money make i go chop and another youth added abeg make every month be election, make man dey see money jare. This shows that elections are now seen as business ventures by our poverty ridden youths and not an avenue for change. God help our youths. 3. Low Turnout of voters. There was low turn out of voters especially the youths, who should be the agents of a better tomorrow. Youths should stop this non chalant attitude of not voting during election. Its appaling. Let the youths rise and make the change. 4. Tribalistic sentiments. Tribalism played a key role in the Anambra elections, candidates campaigned on the basis of being on the platform of Igbo Party, National party, Hausa party etc. This tribalism raised ethnic sentiments that worked in favour or against some candidates. Nigerians should discard religious, tribal and party sentiments and vote for the right candidate. Say no to disunited Nigeria. 5. Nigeria can get better. With the active participation of few honest and courageous youths either as observers, ad hoc staff, electorates or party agents showed that Nigeria can get better when our youths come together and work as a force for a better tomorrow. The youths are the engine of our nation. Feel free to share, add your own comment, like our page and invite your friends. #TogetherWeCan.
