And let us be concerned about one another in order to promote love and good works, not staying away from our worship meetings, as some habitually do, but encouraging each other, and all the more as you see the day drawing near. (Hebrews 10:24-25) With tomorrow being the first Sunday of 2015, I just wanted to take a moment and encourage you all to go to church tomorrow. As followers of Christ, it’s time we stop flirting with Jesus and flirting with the idea of church and make a real commitment to be an active part of the body of Christ. Not because it saves us or earns us favor with God, but because it allows us to experience the love and encouragement of the fellowship of believers, and helps us to grow and mature in our faith. How silly would it be for a person to claim to be a football player yet refuse to come to practice or play in a game? That person would never be taken seriously as a football player, and never grow or mature in his profession. In the same respect, we, as Christians, will never be taken seriously and never be fully prepared and equipped to change this world on our own. We need each other. We are all a part of one body. Just as one body part can’t survive and function on its own, so it is with those who belong to the body of Christ. It takes everyone doing his or her job to make the body of Christ function properly. And, the earthly manifestation of the body of Christ is the church. So, once again, I encourage you to go to church tomorrow and commit to going to church every Sunday this year. I encourage you to lay aside your issues with the faulty human beings who will be running and attending churches tomorrow and focus on the faultless one who gave His life for the church. I encourage you to gather together to promote love and good works and encourage one another. I encourage you to become an active member of the body of Christ in 2015. It doesn’t matter where you go, or with whom you meet. Just go somewhere and offer yourself as a living sacrifice. Peace and blessings to you all in 2015.
