Anniversary Message to the World: Good morning world and all my friends and family on Facebook. I just wanted to share with you that today Anne and I will celebrate our 50th Anniversary. Angie and David Fann, our daughter and son-in-law have been instrumental in putting together a little party for us. They coordinated with several people here in Chattanooga to put that together. So “thank you Angie and David” for making this a wonderful day. Fifty years ago today I married Anne Smith, the love of my life, and the most wonderful woman in the world. She has put up with me as I during the times we moved to different cultures, different cities, and different churches all over the world. She has travelled thousands of miles, waited in silence for hours as I counseled with those who needed help with their marriage, finance, spiritual life, relationships, and a hundred other challenges to them. She bore with me during the hard time and the good time, helping me in decisions and keeping me focused during times when I could have walked away from ministry. She has been the best partner a man in ministry would want at his side. She critiques my lesson presentations, encouraged me to improve, and was at my side when we had to tackle things that were “unpleasant” to deal with. I enjoy being with her. I love teasing her as she teases me. I even love our disagreements especially when she let me “win” on occasions. She has presented to others and myself a life of love, joy, comfort, patience, kindness, and sound counsel. Her Christian example has influenced our daughter to have the same spirit as she continues into her marriage of 13 years. I long for her touch as we walk together through this journey in life. Anne has been my friend, my lover and mistress, my companion and teacher, and my inspiration and joy for 50 wonderful years! The rainbow has been a symbol for our life throughout our years together. It was the theme at our wedding and the song, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” was sung as we took our vows underneath a huge rainbow. When Angie was born, the announcement had a rainbow on the front and in the “pot of gold” at the end was a baby basket. We have a “Blue Bird” painting in our family room. And I guess you could say that we were “always chasing rainbows.” Well, I found my “pot of goal” fifty years ago when this wonderful woman said, “I do.” We had no idea what we were getting into at that time, but it was a love that continues to grow. I loved her all those years ago, but that love seems like a thimble full compared to the ocean of love I have for her now. I love you “wif.”
