Anonymous MOM posted: So my daughter is 9 months old and has spent 2 1/2 months of her life in a hospital an hour from home. They were two separate stays, first month was NICU stay for a month and the second stay was at 3 months old in the ICU. For her first stay I was on maternity leave so I stayed at the hospital but the second stay I stayed for a week and then commuted back and forth every day to work. It broke my heart every day I had to leave but I had to make money. So now we have had her home for a while and have definitely had more bonding time and she has a surgery next month. She will be inpatient for 1-2 weeks depending on recovery and I only took 9 days off from work to stay with her. My question is do you think I will have a harder time with commuting to work towards the end if she is there the full two weeks? I wonder because she is older now and we have such a strong bond now. Not saying I didnt before but I noticed after her first stay, having her home for 2 months it was 10 times harder to leave her side for a second but I had no choice. Do you think I should use the rest of my vacation time for this? Did any of you go through something similar and leave your baby at the hospital for work? I feel like a horrible mother for even asking this but if I dont work we wont have money to survive.
