Anonymous Question reposted by Andrew Wondering if someone can help. My 11yr old son was tested for autism when he was 3 and given the dx of severe separation anxiety disorder....and later at age 8 dx with dyspraxia and perceptual problems. Yet the more i read about asperger syndrome i believe this is what he has. We have to have everything in routine. He takes things very literally. He has emotional meltdowns if things change or he cannot understand why something has happened. He struggles to make/maintain eye contact and thats only with ppl he knows extremely well....if he does acknowledge strangers it is usually with blunt answers/grunts or he hides behind me. He is too frightened to play out like other kids and instead is glued to ipad, tv or nintendo ds. The topics of pokemon bakugan and his 3 fave tv programmes he can talk at great lengths about....tell you who ssid what to who in which episode in which series....and he doesnt have to have just watched it. He is not a genius but is excelling in maths and science and has just been moved to top groups for each after already achieveing his end of school year (july 15) targets!!!! He rarely uses knife n fork and eats with fingers regardless as to whether the food is covered in gravy or sauce etc. He still struggles with buttons and cannot do laces at all. He is very fearful/anxious when we are apart yet has no fear of the road/road sense and would quitr happily ealk out infront of a car. We have bene refused dla on the grounds that he is apparently no different and needs no extra care to someone else his age.(theres probs loads ive missed out) Am i being a paranoid mother and reading too much into things or not??
