AnonymousAugust 2, 2014 at 7:53 PM I am writing in response to the rumor that the rosaries being distributed by the Legion of Mary have New Age symbols. This rumor appears to be false. First, the serpent/pole imagery is Jewish/Christian. And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life. (John 3:14-15) Jesus here is referring to a story told in the 21st chapter of Numbers in which God instructs Moses to mount a bronze serpent on a pole so that all the Israelites bit by the seraphs would be healed. Second, the circles on the rosaries are not pentagrams, but suns. Malachi prophesies about the Messiah as follows: There will arise the sun of justice with its healing rays. (Mal. 3:20). Christians have long interpreted the sun as a symbol of Christ, which is the reason why we celebrate Christmas on December 25, as that is when the days stop getting shorter and begin to get longer. People should be very cautious about spreading internet info unless they know it to come from a reliable source.
