WEST BROADWAY GARDENS COORDINATOR Reports to: Executive Director Term position: April 14, 2014 – October 3, 2014 This position supports four community garden sites, the youth garden, and one urban-agriculture site in West Broadway. The position’s goals are as follows: Support and build capacity in the management of community gardens Provide educational opportunities for residents Uphold the goals of the West Broadway Greenspace Development Plan and Five-Year Community Plan Responsibilities: Community engagement o Coordinate volunteer involvement and logistics in four community gardens o Work with community garden committees to manage each garden o Work with the Inner-City Garden Tour to coordinate this event o Coordinate with volunteers to help maintain community compost sites Program development and support o Manage programming and building partnerships at the Edible Heritage Youth Garden o Provide environmental education opportunities with local residents Staff supervision and administration o Supervise the summer youth Garden Coordinator(s) and Green Wave o Report writing, conduct evaluations, tracking project activities o Work with community partners, City of Winnipeg and other stakeholders. Communication and collaboration o Communications on greening, gardening and composting activities o Network with Greening Coordinators in other neighbourhoods o Assist with WBCO events and planning as needed (ie Treebanding, Spring Clean Up) Qualifications and experience: Training and knowledge o Education in related discipline such as Community Development, Conflict Mediation, Administration or the equivalent in professional experience o Horticultural, gardening and composting training, knowledge and experience o Knowledge and experience in Community Development and Community Economic Development, working with people from diverse backgrounds, experience working in the inner-city Leadership and community engagement o Experience organizing committees, chairing meetings, taking minutes o Experience organizing and leading workshops, sharing skills and building capacity o Experience supervising others o Experience and training in conflict mediation, strong inter-personal skills o Pro-active leader, positive attitude, enjoys taking initiative, works well independently and in a team Program development and administration o Good problem-solving skills o Excellent oral and written work o Proven experience delivering results on time and on budget o Knowledge of Microsoft Office, keyboarding Wage and hours of work: o $16 / hour at 25 - 30 hours/week (possibility of extension pending funding
