Anti-Binay demolition drive Philip Lustre Jr., who is supposed - TopicsExpress

Anti-Binay demolition drive Philip Lustre Jr., who is supposed to be my contemporary in media profession, shared me his status update titled “Binay’s precarious situation.” He mentioned some points that I beg to dispute: “Binay is in tactical alliance with convicted plunderer Erap Estrada…; Binay and Estrada have the same political constituency – the hordes of fans, or bobotantes, who adore and vote for showbiz characters….; and political supporters of President Benigno Aquino III appear unprepared to jump ship and transfer to Binay camp…” I must refresh remind Lustre that in legal parlance, a convict is as good as new born when given executive clemency and that it is unfair to drag him to charges, for which he was cleared. It is unfair to say that Binay’s supporters are “bobotantes,” taking to consideration the fact that thousands of professionals including alumni of the Alpha Phi Omega catapulted him to the vice presidency and will rally him to the next higher post come 2016 polls. Sure, Lustre knows me I am not “bobotante” having voted for Binay and Gibo in the 2010 elections. To say that Aquino supporters would not jump ship to Binay camp is not absolutely right because I know for a fact that dozens of governors, congress members and hundreds of mayor currently belonging to LP are as sure as the sun rising in the west ready to join Binay in 2016 polls. Lustre’s claims reminded me of two fellow journalists, one of them is a colleague in the Manila Bulletin, who travelled hundreds if not thousands of kilometers to reach me in Central Mindanao and try to convince me into joining a “demolition” team against Binay. The two were supposed to pay for bills of our lunch meeting. Instantly after hearing their offer (said to be including a hefty weekly allowance), I paid the bill and told them flatly: “I am an APO member.” The two colleagues left in obvious shame.
