Any ideas for Nikki and her son? My 4-year-old loves doing art projects, but for whatever reason he has absolutely NO interest in drawing or coloring. Ive tried leaving drawing material around for him to pick up and color on his own... sitting next to him drawing simple lines/designs/shapes... providing a chalkboard on the wall in his room. Any time I ask if hed like to draw or if he could draw a picture for me, he either refuses or else his picture consists of a bunch of scribbles. If asked to draw something in particular (a tree, flower, kid, etc.), hell firmly state But I cant or I dont know how. Ive heard that you shouldnt draw objects for your kids (as then theyll always just want you to draw FOR them), so Ive always just prompted him to just try. After a year of him refusing, I tried making a game of it called, I draw... You draw where I would draw a simple picture one part at a time and prompt him to draw the same part. He eventually just got frustrated that his parts didnt look exactly like mine and lost interest. Any ideas for us?
