Anybody who read the article in yesterdays paper (insite Pge59) regarding anti cyclists email the moron journo at [email protected]. I did this is what I wrote:Claire, I have just finished reading your article in Sundays paper and to say i am offended is an understatement. Do you really think branding cyclists “dickheads” is a worthy piece of Journalism. I am sure you would label motorists “Dickheads” too and i bet you have when somebody has cut you off in traffic causing you to break hard and perhaps “save their life”. In this situation would you not “ raise the finger” ? For the record i am both a cyclist and a motorist. This attitude where cyclists are seen as the enemy on the roads has got to stop, crap articles like yours only inflame the fight. Can you please tell me why you do not see a cyclist as a fellow road user? Why does your elitist demeanor allow you to think that us cyclists do not belong on “your” roads? To claim we don’t educate ourselves is a pathetic statement , what does that actually mean? Do you assume that we do not drive cars and don’t know rules of road? Do you claim only cyclists break road rules? Are you that naïve? How does paying a license / rego change anything? Please explain? Will it make us safer? I know many a motorist is killed every day in cars, trucks and motorbikes all complete with Rego and License. Us cyclists all have motor vehicles and the appropriate licenses and registration however we choose, as a lifestyle choice to leave our cars at home and ride a bike. We choose to help the environment and improve our health so you we don’t clog up hospital wards with our obesity related illness. Heaven forbid we stop and enjoy a coffee and banter in one of your exclusive Cafes, i wasn’t aware that these were elitist motorist only zones. When you talk about saving a cyclists life you mention us cyclists like we are insignificant. Why can’t your narrow mindedness see us as People, Brothers , Sisters, Fathers , Mothers , Loved ones etc because that is what we are at the funerals of my fallen comrades killed by a motorist that may been texting, drunk, not paying attention or other dickhead like behavior. Your rubbish story does nothing to help. A teenage troll could write such a nothing attack without any substance. Why not write a positive story about how people have improved their health by taking up cycling, why not even ride one yourself? Or do you prefer to scoff at people who exercise? Could you not write a positive story on why we need to improve road safety? Or does sensationalism sell more papers? In summary we all share the road, we all act like dickheads at time, get over it this is life and find a positive spin on this story to promote road safety not incite hatred.
