Archaeological Dig Community Open Day Invitation for Barangaroo Headland Park, Sydney. Saturday 15 June 2013 The Barangaroo Delivery Authority and Baulderstone are holding an archaeological community open day on Saturday 15 June 2013 from 10am to 4pm This is an opportunity to step back into Sydney’s rich maritime history and take a peek at archaeological finds from the earliest days of our working harbour. Materials and structures recently unearthed during excavations for Barangaroo’s Headland Park will be on public display. Visitors will be able to see up close structures built in the early to mid-1800’s, as well as items used by the workers who built them. Some of the items on display will be: • Hand hewn sandstone blocks, some with pick marks. • Early Chinese and English ceramic wares, glass bottles, copper nails and clay pipes. • A very early stone slipway and a stone seawall. • Timber wharf remains and piles. • Historic fill deposits containing a rich variety of industrial and domestic artefacts. Guided tours will be held every hour for groups of up to 20, with a limit of three groups per hour. The archaeological team will be ready and happy to answer questions.
