Are We Fishing For People Or Just Fishing Around? Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” (Mark, 1:17) Evangelism was the primary reason Jesus called His disciples, and that call remains His central mission today, for all those who actually claim to be His followers. We have all seen others who are fishing these days, but theyre not fishing for people, to be caught and brought into Gods Kingdom, as Jesus is asking that we do for Him. Sadly, many people are not even fishing for fish, but just fishing around to see what they get off of anyone, who might be able to benefit them in some shallow, worldly way. In Luke 5:4, Jesus said to Peter; Put out into deep waters, and let down your nets for a catch. Usually, the fish that were caught in nets during the night, stayed in the shallow waters, but would then move, when it was daylight, to waters too deep to be caught with nets, which is why Peter fished at night. But Jesus, being God The Son, knew something Peter did not know, and that was that on this particular day, a huge catch of fish, so large that is would break the disciples nets, was waiting at the very bottom to be caught. I believe that real followers of Jesus, truly want to fish for, and catch people, so like us, they too, may become saved from their sins and be brought into the net of Gods kingdom; heaven. But, we must devote ourselves to prayer and the study, and understanding of the Bible, in order to become skilled in this kind of night time bottom fishing. That is where all big catches await those who are willing and devoted to Jesus, and His purpose and work of evangelism, through out the world. 2 Timothy 2:15, says Study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that need not be ashamed, correctly understanding the word of truth. We have all been specially gifted to fish in some way, to help save the lost. So, let us now, finally discover what our gifts are and do some people fishing. Millions of lost souls, are in the deep, dark waters somewhere, and are at their very bottom, just waiting for you, and for me, to drop our nets and catch them before they drift off in to eternity, all alone, and separated forever from God.
