Are slugs and snails invading your lawn, garden and living area! Better Homes and Gardens (July 2013 issues ) suggest you spread a coarse or prickly mulch on the ground around your plants to make it difficult for slugs and snails to crawl. Pine needles or a shredded wood much will work too. Diatomaceous earth is also irritating to slugs, so the powder can be sprinkled around plants to discourage them. They also suggest to water early giving your plants time to dry before evening when the slugs are active. Dry conditions discourage them and reduce the amount of damage they can do. I bought a cheap bag of pool salt and sprinkled under the porch where it would not hurt my lawn or plants. That worked great too!
