Are you fighting a good spiritual fight or are you a Benedict - TopicsExpress

Are you fighting a good spiritual fight or are you a Benedict Arnold? 1Timothy 1:18, 19 This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare; Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck. Paul wrote this letter to Timothy as a means of encouragement and instruction. In verses 18 and 19, Paul informed him of a few things he expected Timothy to uphold. He stated the foundation of these expectations as being sound doctrine. He compared the Christian life to warfare, instructing Timothy to stand fast on faith and live a life that does not conflict with a good conscience according to biblical beliefs. Paul concluded by reminding Timothy that some of the local Christians had strayed away from a devout life and made a wreck of their life and Christian testimony. This same charge should be given to each of us that profess to be children of God today. We need to remind ourselves and those we share our lives with that it is important to put God first and to worship Him in spirit and in truth. We should seek ways to honor Him through removing dross from our lives and devoting our lives to moving closer to righteousness and purity. Our lives are shipwrecks because we do not live according to God’s will and His truth, we live according to our own desires and opinions. If you truly desire to be free from the sin of your old life and the chaos and pain it has caused, repent of those old habits and attitudes and seek obedience with a thirst compared to a deer that thirsts for a cool drink from a refreshing stream.
