He was a participant in one of the reality-singing series, Fame Gurukul in 2005 and became an assistant to music director Pritam. [1] Singh is best known for Tum Hi Ho (song) from Aashiqui 2 that won him Filmfare and IIFA best male playback singer award in 2013 and 2014 respectively. [2][3] Personal life Arijit Singh married Koel Roy, his childhood friend on 20 January 2014 in Tarapith temple, West Bengal. [4][5] The wedding ceremony, which was held in Tarapith in West Bengal, was a private affair with only close friends and family members in attendance. The couple wanted their wedding to be held at the Kali temple, a major reason as to why it was held in the town. [6] Career Singh first came into the public eye during a reality show called Fame Gurukul on Sony television, where he lost the finals. Talking about the experience he said he was 18 then, and the show put him out there, giving him the chance he needed to stay back in Mumbai. [7] An offer to record an album from Kumar Taurani of Tips had Singh hotfooting it back in Mumbai. But the album took almost a year to be recorded, mixed and mastered and was eventually never released. [8] He went on to win a subsequent reality show called 10 Ke 10 Le Gaye Dil with the help of audience votes. [9] Moreover, he also sung the title song Hum Hai Deewane of the Indian TV show called Madhubala – Ek Ishq Ek Junoon and Dadagiri featuring Sourav Ganguly . Shankar Ehsaan Loy gave Singh the first break on one of their songs called All For One from High School Musical 2 (Vol 1) album in 2007. [10] 2011-12: Phir Mohabbat and entry into Bollywood Singh lent his voice for Mithoon s Phir Mohabbat along with Mohammad Irfan Ali and Saim Bhat in Mukesh Bhatt produced movie Murder 2 which was released in 2011, as his first Bollywood movie song. This song created a buzz amongst the youth and topped the charts on the radio for weeks. [11] Though he didnt have any other release that year, the following year, he sung for 6 movies. He worked with Pritam Chakraborty in films like Players, Agent Vinod , Cocktail and Barfi! . [14] 2013-present: Tum Hi Ho and into the success 2013 is the most successful year for Singh where he received numerous praise and awards for his chartbuster song Tum Hi Ho in Aashiqui 2. The song topped many radio charts and became the Love Anthem Of The Year. [15] The song was a critical and commercial success where it topped the Indian iTunes chart for 61 times altogether. He worked with Jeet Ganguly for the rest of his tracks in the album and selected Piya Aaye Na along with Tum Hi Ho as his favorites from the album. [21] The year marks some of his successful songs like Dilliwaali Girlfriend and soul stirring Kabira for Pritam Chakraborty in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani . [22] He recorded for Sanjay Leela Bhansali s Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela and for Sharib- Toshi in Jackpot . While in the Miranda House fest in Delhi, Singh said he wasnt completely happy with the actors in the video of the latter which is one of his personal favourite songs. [23] Re-created version of Har Kisi Ko in Boss, [24] received mixed reactions from critics, while songs like Kashmir Main, Tu Kanyakumari [25] and Dhokha Dhadi [26] was well received by both critics and audience, during the year. 2014 is also followed by many acknowledged songs from Singh. He recorded his first track to A.R. Rahman , Dil Chaspiya in Kochadaiiyaan [27] He lends his voice for some re-created songs like Samjhawan in Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and Aaj Phir in Hate Story 2 where both received to mixed response from critics due to comparison with original but topped many charts for weeks. [28] He collaborated with Sajid-Wajid for Main Tera Hero and Heropanti, where Palat - Tera Hero Idhar Hai from former, received mixed response from reviewers[29] and Raat Bhar from latter, rocked music charts during the released days with positive reviews. [30] He also recorded Mast Magan in 2 States for Shankar Ehsaan Loy , which topped iTunes India chart and was acclaimed. [31] Other songs released during the year, like Tu Hi Hai Aashiqui for Dishkiyaoon, [32] Suno Na Sangemarmar for Youngistaan , [33] songs from City Lights ,[34] Mary Kom ,[35] Humdard for Ek Villain [36] and Jiya for Gunday , [37] were well received by the reviewers, while Shanivaar Raati from Main Tera Hero, [29] Saawan Aaya Hai from Creature 3D [38] and songs of Holiday [39] received mixed response from critics. Education Singh attended Jiaganj Raja Bijoy Singh High School. After high school studies, he proceeded to join Shripat Singh College in Jiaganj.
