Around 50 social and climate justice activists spearheaded by the Freedom from Debt Coalition (FDC) staged a picket-rally in front of the World Bank headquarters in Taguig, Metro-Manila from 10:30 to 11:00, October 10, 2014 as part of the 2014 national and global campaigns for climate justice. FDC is joined by the members of the Philippine Movement for Climate Justice (PMCJ) and Alyansa Tigil Mina (ATM) in a kick-off mobilization activity that will last for a week, until October 18. Speakers from various organizations and sectoral groups took turns in assailing the role of the IMF-WB not only in exacerbating the climate crisis by funding dirty energy and energy false solutions, but by rendering climate-impacted communities and countries more vulnerable and powerless due to the impacts of its policies and conditionalities that worsen underdevelopment, inequality and mass poverty. In its press statement submitted to the media and distributed to the public, FDC called on the World Bank to get out of dirty energy and pay up its climate debt.
