As International Tiger Day comes to an end, we would like to share - TopicsExpress

As International Tiger Day comes to an end, we would like to share a bit of the story of how Robbie came into the Bowmanville Zoo family. As a young cub, Robbie was purchased illegally by a bar owner in Port Colborne, Ontario to help bring in more business. A woman named Keeley visited the bar one evening and noticed that Robbie was living in a dog crate in the bars kitchen. His nose was raw and bleeding from trying to get out of the crate and he was being fed a diet of dog food and meat scraps from patrons. Over the weekend, Keeley visited the cub several times, rubbed ointment on his nose and checked on his general wellbeing, and eventually reported the bar owner to the local Humane Society. A week later, Keeley was notified that Robbie was being seized by the Humane Society. Robbie was then evaluated by vets, placed into quarantine (a typical practice for exotic animals), and then found his home at the Bowmanville Zoo! Some of the moms and dads might even remember his story on the news around that time! About 13 years ago, Keeley Ward helped bring Robbie to the zoo. A few weeks ago we invited Keeley to reconnect with the tiger whose life she had saved so many years ago. Now Robbie is helping the zoo educate our guests about tiger conservation so that he can help save his species in the wild. Thank you Keeley for your part in bringing Robbie into our family!
