As-Salamu Aleikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuhu Dear Brothers and Sisters in Islam. In certain aspects of our religion there are some variations in rulings and acts of worships based on which sects he or she belongs to. Each group claimed their superiority over the others and their followers rejoiced over the others. These have created a doubtful state of mind to many Muslims especially to the youths. The scholars of the four major Madhabs stick to the principle that One who follows a particular Madhab should stick to it in all religious matters and nothing must be intermingled. They say the four Sunni madhab are one. If they are one then why are we not allowed to practice an act of worship belonging to the other madhabs? Many questions are unanswered, Say, what if the sect to whom he or she belongs to is wrong? Who will be responsible? Shall we not be accountable for it? Why we cannot mixed the acts of one to the other and many more? In order to get a clear concept of what should be done let us consider the verse of the Qur’an: “ O you who believe! Obey Allah and obey the Messenger, and those of you who are in authority. (And) if you differ in anything amongst yourselves, refer it to Allah and His Messenger if you believe in Allah and in the Last Day. That is better and more suitable for final determination.” An-Nisha, 4:59 From the above verse it is clear that: Believers must obey Allah and his Messenger, the Prophet Muhammed(SAW) and those in authority. 2. But if there is a difference among us, the believers ie, the Muslims, then we are commanded to refer to Allah(ie to Allah’s Book the Qur’an) and His Messenger( ie, Sahih Hadith ) in our time. A believer in Allah and the Last Day must refer to the above two authentic sources for final determination. Now what I would like to say is that these differences arises mainly from the fiqh of Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi, and Hambali and some other smaller ones. All these Great scholars have told in their respective books that if there comes a difference between their writings and The book of Allah or the Sunnah of the Prophet(SWH) then throw away theirs and take that of the Qur’an and Sunnah. Now when all these Great Imams have declared this and the book of Allah have clarified where to refer when differences arises then, why are most of us still sticking to the madhab? Why Muslims are being told to follow only one madhab and cannot be mixed? Is it right for anyone to forbid its practice only because it is of the other madhab while the division into madhab itself is wrong? Are the writings of the Great Scholars scale higher than the Prophet? What if anyone restricted the Hadith of the Prophet(SAW) from practicing? I choose the path Allah(SWT) commanded us to refer to ALLAH and HIS MESSENGER over The OTHER IN AUTHORITY. WHAT ABOUT YOU? The Four Great Imams are no doubt great great scholars. We respect them and deserved to be respected. But where there is controversy we must think whom should be followed. Think yourself and decide...! ALLAH KNOWS BEST.
