As an expert in computer security I recommend that anyone who is using Truecrypt immediately decrypt your drive and uninstall Truecrypt or reinstall your machine completely. The ladder being more recommended. The problem is that the Truecrypt site has either been compromised or a security flaw has been discovered in it. It has in the past been speculated that some header data in the encrypted data could contain a backdoor passphrase. Truecrypt is however open source but it has also been speculated that the binaries being distributed on the site are not compiled from the open source code made available. Although there is little proof of these accusations the very fact that their site and/or software has been compromised is enough reason to abandon it as a viable solution. Here is what is currently on their site: truecrypt.org . The page suggests to use Bitlocker. DO NOT use Bitlocker. Bitlocker is closed-source Microsoft software and cannot be trusted.
