As many of you know i have been suffering from EXTREAM hoarseness, - TopicsExpress

As many of you know i have been suffering from EXTREAM hoarseness, sometimes no voice, for a few months now; with no answers! My lack of voice has impacted my life & business, lets face it, i talk for a living.. lol..Today i finally went to an ENT and received many answers! We did an endoscopic examination, a long tube with a camera inserted into the nose to view my vocal cords and much more. Thankfully my vocal cords look fantastic, no polyps, lesions etc. He said i have sever nasal congestion due to my allergies, but i also have GERD and LPR disease! GERD (Gastroesophageal reflux disease) is basically when the acidic remains that you ingest do not digest normally, instead it comes back up the stomach and into the esophagus, casing chest burning/pain which people think is just heart burn. LPR (laryngopharyngeal reflux disease) which is the contents of the stomach and upper digestive tract reflux all the way up the esophagus, beyond the upper esophageal sphincter (a ring of muscle at the top of the esophagus), and into the back of the throat and possibly the back of the nasal airway. This Explains A LOT!!! The Dr. explained to me that because i have LPR that i swallow more air than the normal person! In which will give me a bubble effect going up my chest and turn into a hiccup. Which is rather funny, because i have very random loud uncontrollable hiccups at times. It has always been from this reflux! Which explains why after i eat i will get a random painful hiccup! (so strange i know) When gone untreated (which obviously it has gone untreated in me for years) it causes loss of voice, hoarseness & difficulty breathing; which i have been painfully experiencing for a few months! I also have bad allergies, which between the allergies and acid issues together makes it worse. My sinus drip aggravates the LPR and the LPR aggravates the sinus drip! I will now get back on my allergy shots to rid that issue! And i am on a very strong medication to control my GERD and LPR. He said that it can take months for me to fully get my voice back. I have been on the meds for a couple of weeks and i already see a lot of change in my voice! Yet, i still dont know if i will have a good voice day or bad voice day! That will fluctuate for a few months until its all under control! I have to change some life habits... laying down with anything in my stomach is the worst thing i can do.. So i have to be sure not to eat or drink anything 2 hour prior to bed time.. Also i some how have to find some way to cut out soft drinks (my huge addiction)! I know i can do it, i have done it before! Those are just 2 things among many things, but i know i can do this, i need my voice! I am so glad we have found answers, this is controllable and can be fixed. I pray the simple medication works for me! The ENT did suggest i see a gastro Dr now, yet he highly encouraged me that i should not have any esophagus erosion! Though his whole exam he only saw a swollen irritated area in one spot which isnt too bad, he said it could be worse! Sorry i posted a long story, so many people have been following me with this issue and i wanted to let everyone know! Honestly, fb is the easiest way! So bring it on baby!! Lets heal my voice fully!! Have fun with my Scentsy business (yes still contact me im still fine), raise my children, love my family and enjoy my life :-) u can read a little more about this at the following link.. thanks for all the prayers please keep them coming entnet.org/content/gerd-and-lpr
