As part of the 214 (Worcestershire) Battery Royal Artillery 150th - TopicsExpress

As part of the 214 (Worcestershire) Battery Royal Artillery 150th anniversary celebrations a ceremony of Beating Retreat was held at Pitchcroft last night (Saturday 16 Aug). The ceremony of Beating Retreat goes back hundreds of years to before the time when the Army lived in barracks and were billeted in local houses. At a set time, each evening the Regimental drummers would beat retreat which was a signal for the local pubs to stop serving soldiers and that soldiers should return to their billets. It is now solely a ceremonial event! The band of the Royal Artillery played and the highlight was their rendition of Tchaikovskys 1812 Overture augmented by the guns of 214 Bty!
