As snow piles up in enormous confections, mentally I am preparing for planting. My challenge; to make a kitchen garden of my small, shady space. I have shrub roses gone wild, and will be sad to remove them for space consideration. They are lovely roses, quartered pink blooms with heads like small cabbages. They are very old-fashioned with a heavenly smell but blooms once. I lament. The other challenge is to somehow find enough sunlight that filters through my ancient but somewhat unfortunately placed mature white oak. It is well over 150 years old and as long as I draw breath I will defend the life of my oak. There has been a history of some who would rather see the oak go. I would weep as though a family member has died to see the tree brought low. I have such hopes to grow foods that will enhance our health. I will grow purple carrots, perhaps replace my regular raspberries with higher nutritional black raspberries. All seeds that will be ordered will be to this purpose. It is my way of managing hubbys triglycerides, diabetes and cancer. It works better than any pill or potion with a side effect of pure satisfaction.
