Asra Nomani shared this today: Each day this week of our launch into the world, we will share with you a feature from our Families on the Frontline. In our broken mental health care system, we have identified five struggles families often face and we offer solutions available to policymakers. Yesterday, we met the Bruce family of Caratunk, Maine, where they were Shut Out of their sons treatment. Today, we highlight our second area of concern: Nowhere to Go. Today, we feature the Jones family from the Orlando, Fla., area. Albert Jones told the Orlando Sentinel last week that his family tried to get his son, James Earl Jones, treatment during a relapse from schizophrenia, but, as you will read, their efforts took a tragic turn when, he said, LifeStream Behavioral Center turned the family away. There is a solution for policymakers: funding more hospital beds and better treatment for serious mental illness, including early intervention. We also need to treat serious mental illness as a physical illness of the brain, not a behavioral issue. #Tb4T
