At least 5 Conrail E8s ran on NJDOT trains during the period while their own E8s were being rebuilt by ICG Paducah shops; 4022, 4014, 4039, 4063 & 4256. I was fortunate enough to shoot 3 of them myself in service on NJDOT, 4014, 4022 and 4256. Conrail 4256, x-PC and a former PRR unit originally was painted in solid CR blue dip with only a CR stencil for lettering. I shot CR E8 4256 at the x-PRR South Amboy NJ diesel shop on September 24 1978.
