At the Memorial today for those killed and injured at the Navy Yard, President Obama says there is nothing ordinary about the mass carnage taking place in the nation. He has now visited five places where our citizens and neighbors were gunned down like animals in a slaughterhouse. Are we Americans somehow demented as a people on this planet? Are we so twisted and so afraid of the gun lobby that we will sanction and approve this type of routine destruction on a regular basis? When will leaders rise up to put a stop to this madness in our communities, our schools, our churches, our malls, our offices, our factories and our homes? Do the streets of America have to run red with blood for another quarter century before we take action?
