At twilight after hours of mowing, I stood gazing with appreciation on my beautifully manicured fields, but my sense of satisfaction was short-lived when I saw the reproach in the eyes of a young doe and her tiny fawn standing near the forest’s edge. It was then that I remembered the softly hollowed lair deep within the tall grass. Someday I will get the timing right. It will be a time when the turkeys are not nesting, a time when the fawn is well on her way to taking care of herself, a time when the wild flowers are not blooming . . . . Yes, one day, I will get it right!
