Avoiding mundane sound Srila Prabhupada explains that in this - TopicsExpress

Avoiding mundane sound Srila Prabhupada explains that in this world, we are chewing the chewed. The example is given that sometimes an animal will chew on a piece of sugarcane and when the juice is taken out, he spits the dry stalk. Another animal passes by, picks up that reject and chews on it again but nothing is left to enjoy. Similarly, we come back life after life doing the same things (eating, sleeping, mating and defending) over and over again, forgetting each time that these experiences have already been made and there is nothing more to get from them. This doesnt mean that we should stop these occupations all together but, as human beings, we must add another dimension to them by cultivating transcendental knowledge; hearing the spiritual sound from a bona fide source. Lord Chaitanya thus advised His followers to avoid mundane litterature (sound) and palatable foodstuffs. These are principles that those who want to advance in spiritual life should follow in order to become detached from the old stuff that has been chewed over and over. One should strive to ear the transcendental sound as much as possible and offer his foodstuffs to Krishna before eating. https://prabhupadavani.org/main/AFP/Bhagavatam/338.html
