BATLOKOA URGED TO PREPARE FOR POLIHALI DAM Mokhotlong, Aug. 30 (LENA) --- The Minister of Energy and Water Affairs, Dr. Timothy Thahane has urged Batlokoa community to make full preparations ahead of Lesotho Highlands Water Project (LHWP) Phase II construction of Polihali dam. He said this during community consultation which was held at Tlokoeng on Friday. Dr. Thahane said the government is set to begin a new developmental journey with the implementation of Phase II project construction of Polihali dam, which will need people who are fully committed to adapting for changes. He said good cooperation at all levels of community can contribute towards the development of the country during the Phase II project. He said they have learned from mistakes made during the construction of Phase I project and that is why they have to meet community members before the project resume with the aim of sharing ideas. He said the objective of Phase II project is to take the country to the next level of development and to alleviate poverty, adding that all those developmental aspects can be achieved through good cooperation. Dr. Thahane said Phase II project is going to bring about many opportunities for the entire country such as royalties from sales of water to South Africa, power generation and infrastructure development. He urged Batlokoa community to be cooperative as they will always be contacted on every step taken at the project site. Representing Malingoaneng Principal Chief, Chief Mats�ohlo Sekonyela said they feel honoured to see such massive infrastructure being implemented within their place after many years of living in poverty. Chief Sekonyela said the project is going to make their district to be highly recognized with many developments that can lead to economic growth. One of the community members, Mr. Moiloa Letjama said they have been living in harsh conditions for a long time and their hopes are high that Mokhotlong will get more developments. Mr. Letjama said unemployment is a major challenge within their area and they recommend the project to fulfil all its promises during the implementation of the project in order to develop the country. Dr. Thahane was accompanied by Motlotlong Member of Parliament such as the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, Mr. Mohlabi Tsekoa and Mrs. Makhotso Mats�umunyane. Polihali dam is going to be constructed along Senqu River in Mokhotlong. LENA
