ARC, in partnership with FAO, DFID, relevant Somalia ministries, and existing TVET providers, will implement a market driven work placement program. The overarching goal is to increase job placements and self-employment opportunities for Somali youth through the provision of market driven skills training and by strengthening strategic linkages among business education providers with public and private sector actors. The TVET program will be linked and build on the achievements of the SEED programs’ two major components: (i) market development in: agriculture, livestock, and fisheries; and (ii) investment climate enhancement including a challenge fund. This program will add value to productive sectors and result in significant returns to youth, women, industry and the wider economy of Somalia. It encompasses both the provision of Business Development Services (BDS) and TVET types of skills training to meet market requirements and complement SEED activities. Job Purpose With the general supervision and guidance of the TVET Programme Coordinator, the Business Development Service (BDS) TOT Trainer, will be responsible to support the capacity development of 10 BDS providers on business and entrepreneurship training, business plan development, mentoring and coaching. The BDS TOT trainer will also be responsible to create linkages between TVET trainees, BDS providers and the private sector. Main Duties and Responsibilities: Mapping and Identification of Business Development Service (BDS)Providers Training of trainers (TOT) of potential BDS practitioners based on adopted BDS modules and methodologies Training of potential and existing entrepreneurs at the BDS centers Work with entrepreneurs (especially from vulnerable groups of women, youth, and others) on business startup, functioning, improvement, and expansion Regular rapid market appraisal of BDS market Update and wide distribution of Directories of assistance and advice as reference information for potential entrepreneur Develop a training manual for business development and entrepreneurial skills. Assist in formulating a clear record keeping methods for semi-literate and illiterate target groups. Organize and conduct Training of Trainers Workshops for BDS providers Provide mentoring and coaching services on basic business skills, personal marketing, life skills and conflict resolution techniques for business mentors Facilitate and Create linkages between business mentors (diaspora and in country) MSMEs, business associations, cooperatives and trainees to encourage employment and business growth and for networking. Prepare quarterly BDS TOT training plan Provide, weekly, monthly and quarterly progress reports Academic Qualifications and Experience A minimum of university degree business development, economics, educational management or related field. At least 3 years of extensive working experience in BDS and entrepreneurship Proved professional experience in conducting similar TOT training with BDS organizations Knowledge of BDS market and forces affecting delivery of quality services Knowledge of microfinance, entrepreneurship, MSME’s, business associations and cooperatives Deep understanding of Somalia’s labor market and youth employment promotion strategies Knowledge and experiences in Project Cycle Management in particular in monitoring and evaluations Familiarity with technical areas in economic recovery and development, civil society and cross-cutting themes regarding youth development programs and gender mainstreaming Strong knowledge of Excel and basic statistics is required; demonstrated skill in statistical analysis, MS Access and other databases formats strongly desired Strong report writing skills in English. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and with minimum supervision Ability to work and travel to project sites Strong inter-personal, cultural and diplomatic skills An ability to multi-task, set priorities, and work under tight deadlines Key Behaviors and Abilities Commitment to ARC’s mandate and objectives.
