BECAUSE OF YOURS AND MY SINS: Here we are at the foot of the cross. We see the crucified Jesus of Nazarene. He is groaning, blood is oozing out of His head, hands and legs and water besides His ribs. O no! He is clad in thorny hat, and a napkin only-shameful. A soldier is forcing Him to drink wine mixed with gall. Those stirred by the adversary are mocking at Him, “he saved others, let Him save himself”and finally he cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? Giving up the ghost. Someone asked, “Who is this man? Where is he from? What crime has He committed to deserve all these hardships?” the scriptures answered Him in John chapter 3:16…He is Jesus Christ, the son of God. For loves’ sake the Lord God handed Him to us sinners. Previously on He was in heaven, in the adorable palms of God. He was enjoying the wonderful glory of His Father…no pen can describe what heaven is like. Psalm 22:6 But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people…because of yours and mine sins. Luke 4:29 And rose up, and thrust him out of the city, and led him unto the brow of the hill whereon their city was built, that they might cast him down headlong… because of yours and mine sins. John 8:52 Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death… because of yours and mine sins. Matthew 26:67 Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands… because of yours and mine sins. Isaiah 53:3-9 has a summary: He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from Him; He was despised, and we esteemed Him not. Surely He hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions; He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on Him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and He was afflicted, yet He opened not his mouth: He is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so He openeth not his mouth. He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare His generation? For He was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. And He made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because He had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth….all because of yours and mine sins. Every sin that we commit is an arrow into the flesh of our Lord Jesus Christ. That is why He said in John 14:15, “if you love me, keep my commandments”. ‘Please don’t sin! I died on the cross not because weeps but the weight of sins” Therefore dear saints, let’s not continue wounding our Lord by sinning. God loves the sinners (you and me) but hates sin. May the good Lord bless you? Amen. Written by: Emanuel Kunselema
