BECOMING MARY AGAIN The Lord said to her in reply, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things.” — Luke 10:41 Our coworker, Nova, was leaving for the US for good and the office was giving her a despedida party. Since she was from our department, we were in charge of the refreshments after the program. We were busy at the back of the room, making sure the food would be sufficient and distributed efficiently. But we got a bit too noisy while our other office-mates were honoring her that our president had to call our attention. We got so busy with the preparations that we almost forgot the purpose of the gathering. It’s just like what happened to Martha in today’s reading. And it’s what happened to me in 2011. I got too engrossed in my work that I spent less time for prayer, for quiet recollection, for communion with God. And it had affected the way I saw things, the way I treated people, the way I looked at events in my life. And I didn’t like the person I was becoming.
