BLEEDING DURING MENOPAUSE If you are over 50 years, have lived at least a full year without menstruating and then begin to experience bleeding or spotting, it is a condition of concern. You have POST MENOPAUSAL BLEEDING. This is abnormal. It is caused by: -Polyps: These are growths, usually non-cancerous that form on your uterus or cervical canal and cause bleeding. -Endometrial atrophy: As you grow, your oestrogen levels deplete and this can cause the lining of your uterus to become thin. This can make you bleed. -Cancer of the uterus -Obesity -Dramatic weight loss -Malnutrition -Stress -Emotional trauma -Hormonal imbalance Once bleeding is detected, visit your doctor immediately to confirm any of the causes. Treatment is based on the cause and ranges from medications to surgery.
