BREAKING NEWS: Osun PDP Primaries: Police Minister, Omisore Clash with Adeleke-BUSINESSWORLD Jelili adesiyan Minister of police This weekend’s Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) governorship primaries in Osun State is being heated up with a reported clash, last night, involving Alhaji Abduljelili Adesiyan, minister of police affairs and Senator Iyiola Omisore, former deputy governor of the state on one hand and Senator Isiaka Adeleke, former governor of the state, on the other. Both Omisore and Adeleke are leading governorship aspirants in this weekend’s primaries that will take place in Osogbo, the state capital. Wole Oke, another governorship aspirant, also attended the meeting. The clash, which was said to have nearly resulted into fisticuffs between both parties, took place during an arranged meeting between the leading candidates in the primaries and the representatives who were sent from the party’s secretariat in Abuja to oversee the peaceful conduct of the primaries which comes up in Osogbo, the state capital on April 5. Adesiyan was alleged to have rough-handled Adeleke in the process of exchanging hot words while threatening to deal with him. The minister, who confirmed the development in a telephone conversation with BusinessWorld, said the presence of about 50 tugs was noticed in the premises of the hotel where the meeting was being held. “Naturally, as the minister of police, some of my men accosted them as to what could be their mission at that time of the day. It was in the process of screening them that Adeleke came into the scene and tried to cause some embarrassments. “We have been building the party in the state in the last four years and nobody can come at this time to destabilise PDP in the state at this crucial period,” the minister said. “I didn’t touch him in the process and if he feels I slapped him, he should go to court. I am ready for him because he is not a threat to me in the state.” The Omisore group was said to have been embittered by Adeleke’s sudden decision to contest this year’s governorship election under PDP. Omisore’s loyalists see this development as an attempt to distort the already laid plans of the group to come out in a landslide victory at the primaries. Although, Omisore has started the preparation long time ago and is favoured to win the primary, the sudden appearance of the former governor at the stage is seen as capable of causing some disequilibrium in the Saturday’s primaries. The minister, who is an ardent loyalist to Omisore, was said to have been visibly angry at the turn of event and started exchanging hot words with the former governor during the meeting. A footage of the CCTV at the venue of the meeting was said to have recorded some of the ugly scenes that confirmed the incidence.
