BRIGHTER IN NORTH AND WEST: A cloudy, damp and murky start to the weekend across much of Britain with showery outbreaks of rain moving north-eastwards, some of this rain on the heavy side. However brighter conditions are moving in across the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Wales and southwest England and these will extend to much of Scotland, northern and western parts of England today although the odd shower is still possible. It will remain cloudy and wet over the far northeast of Scotland though, and it will also remain dull and damp across central and south-eastern parts of England with some patchy rain. Very mild in the south and east with maximum temperatures of 12°C to 14°C despite the cloud, but cooler in the brighter north and west with highs of 9°C to 11°C. There will be light to moderate southerly winds for many, but these will veer westerly in the west and ease.
