BSHS v IGS 1st XV Match Report: A pleasing result on the weekend that takes our season record to 2 from 4 and places us equal 3rd on the GPS table. A high spirited game that epitomised our season with some excellent attacking tries as a result of some individual brilliance and some well constructed team tries, which was very pleasing from a coaching perspective, offset by some poor defence and decision making. In a first half that would be best described as scrappy, with the lead changing multiple times, we were disappointing from a defensive perspective and unable to establish any rhythm. We did begin to build some momentum in the final 10 minutes however and although we had a player in the sin bin, we took a 1 point lead into the break. At the resumption of play we came out with a positive intent and even with the loss of one of our key players to injury, we began to dictate terms and execute our patterns more effectively. It was very pleasing to see the boys create some well constructed team tries and establish what we thought was a comfortable lead. Sticking to our systems and structures, and executing our phase play well, we were able to put ourselves in a position to earn a positive result. Unfortunately two poor decisions in possession resulted in IGS taking their chances to come within two points with a minute to play. After lacking composure against BGS to close out the game, the boys showed much more maturity to refocus and attack the restart.Gaining possession and attacking with positive intent earned us a penalty that was converted to extend our lead to five points and conclude the game. From a coaching perspective, we were very happy with a number of areas of the game - we were much more clinical in taking our opportunities, as a team we linked well through both backs and forwards, our systems and structures in attack provided opportunities and our counter attack was again effective and led to a great try down the right hand side of the field. There are though some key points to improve on before we face a confident Nudgee team this week at Fursden Road. Mr Sione.
