BUFF CREEK BAPTIST CHURCH: DESPISE NOT THE DAY OF SMALL - TopicsExpress

BUFF CREEK BAPTIST CHURCH: DESPISE NOT THE DAY OF SMALL THINGS After a speaking engagement, I usually try to post something about my experience the same day. But several things have delayed me from finally expressing my appreciation for the time I had at Buff Creek Baptist Church in Sylva, North Carolina, last Sunday. Pastor Josh Blythe and his wife, Kristen, and their precious little daughter Emma, are a delight to be around. Josh is the kind of pastor that doesnt get much attention. Hes in a very small church, and a place relatively uneventful, as compared to many others. Yet there he is, working zealously for Christ, trying to hold the line on all thats right, while also leading his church to grow. In my estimation, pastors like Josh are largely underpaid, understaffed, and under appreciated. But quite frankly, its foot soldiers like Josh who are most in the line of fire and advancing the kingdom of God. I have profound respect for Josh and others like him. And I trust his church knows the value of someone of his character and commitment. While visiting with the Blythes and their church family, I was reminded of the biblical admonition from Zechariah: For who has despised the day of small things? (Zechariah 4:10). God often works his most powerful manifestations of grace in the small things. When God wanted to deliver his people from the oppression of the Egyptians, he didnt send an army, he sent a little baby from the bullrushes. When the nation of Israel had sunk into a place of spiritual and political defeat, he sent a little boy named Samuel who would one day lead the nation back to greatness.. When the Lord wanted to save the world, he didnt raise up a great potentate to deliver it, God sent a little baby - the Lord Jesus - who would grow to change the whole world. When God decided it was time for the wicked giant, Goliath, to fall, he sent young David. When God would turn back the wicked Midianites, he raised up Gideon and his little army. Rahab simply tied a little red flag outside her window and it saved her whole family. A little boy brought a few loaves of bread and a few fishes to Jesus and the Savior fed thousands. No, we should never underestimate the power of the little things to accomplish the great things. I salute Josh Blythe and his little church, Buff Creek Baptist. I believe God has big plans for them. And I was very honored to be asked to speak to them on the Lords Day, January 19, 2014. -Dr. Mark Creech
