Baba Muktananda: aTTrActing shAkti Of shAktipAt ~ Q) To whom does the Guru give Shaktipat? Baba: The Guru gives #Shaktipat to a seeker who is willing to receive it. He does not decide that he is going to give it to one and not another. This is like asking who the Sun gives its heat to. Anyone can tell you that a person who takes the trouble to go outside and stand in the Sun will receive its heat, whereas if he stays in his house he wont receive it. The Sun has no favorites. Such an idea has no meaning for the Sun. Anyone who has the Self within him and who does not? - can receive Shaktipat. If you open yourself to the Guru, his Shakti will flow into you. Even if he does not give it to you, you can draw it from him by force. * In the Mahabharata there is the story of a Guru named Dronacharya, the greatest master of archery. He taught only princes. One day when Eklavya, a tribal boy approached him for lessons in archery, he refused to teach him. Eklavya was not discouraged. He looked at the teacher from head to foot, evoked him in his heart, and offered him his love. Then he went back to his hut, fashioned a statue of Dronacharya, and every day began to worship & meditate on it and then practiced with his bow and arrow. After some time all his Gurus knowledge of archery passed into him through the clay statue. One day, Eklavya heard a dog barking loudly. Seeing that the dog was distracting him, he took up his bow and shot five arrows into its mouth. He shot the arrows in such a way that the dog, though unhurt, could no longer close its mouth. It ran back whimpering to Dronacharyas Gurukula. When the Guru saw the arrow in the dogs teeth, he was astonished as he had never taught this secret to anyone, so how did someone do it.So, he soon set out his students to find out who the archer was. The students returned back with Eklavya and told Dronacharya, Here is the one who shot the arrow. He says that you taught him that secret, It is quite obvious that you have kept it from us. Dronacharya asked Eklavya, From whom did you learn this secret? You refused to teach me, so I went home and made a clay image of you, said Eklavya. I Meditated regularly before it, and I made myself aware of my identity with you & spontaneously, this secret revealed itself within me. * So the Guru does not have to decide to give Shaktipat. You can compel him to give it to you as Eklavya did. Love and devotion have tremendous power. Through them you can get whatever you want from the Guru. A person receives Shaktipat from the Guru according to his attitude. If his attitude is very good, I do not have to give him Shaktipat; he draws it to himself. Some people receive Shakti just by reading one of my hooks and only later come to find out who I am. The higher a persons attitude, the sooner he receives Shakti. ~ Q) Once we receive Shaktipat, do we have to worry about keeping it? Baba: To hold the Shakti within you, to sustain grace, you have to maintain devotion to the Guru and live a pure life. Suppose that you are penniless and starving and, by someones grace, you receive 3 dollars. You take the 3 dollars & go shopping. The first object you see is a harmonica. You dont need it, but driven by a whim you spend one dollar on it. Then you see a balloon. That strikes your fancy, so you buy it too. You see some other object and buy that. In this way, you have spent the 3 dollars and your pocket is empty. What you really need is food, but you have no money left. Similarly, you should not dissipate the Guru’s grace. If you wish to conserve it, you must be very conscious and careful. Talk less, speak the truth, and work to earn the bread you eat. All these things will help you sustain grace. ~ Q) You often speak of the power of Shakti. What restrains the selfish nature from misusing this power? Baba: Can Ego control Shakti? Ego will never be able to hold Shakti in its hands. Instead, Shakti will devour ego. Shakti destroys the stupidity of stupid people. It sharpens the minds of dull people. Shakti is meant to develop ones understanding and capacity for inner contemplation, to refine ones intelligence, and to help one merge in the supreme Truth. As Shakti unfolds, more and more ego will be dissolved. ~ Source: Where are you Going by Swami #Muktananda ~ Photo: babamuktananda ~
