Baltimore Nonprofit to Host Baltimore’s First Elementary/Middle School Wrestling Championship By David Levinstim February 27, 2014 Baltimore, MD – Beat the Streets – Baltimore, a nonprofit that uses the sport of wrestling as a way to mentor to young students, will host Baltimore City’s first elementary/middle school wrestling championship. The tournament is being hosted in partnership with Digital Harbor High School on March 2, 2014. Approximately 200 Baltimore City elementary and middle school students are expected to compete. This tournament will bring together community based wrestling teams from Middle River, McKims and Woodlawn as well as the wrestling teams from 10 Beat the Streets – Baltimore after school programs. For the Beat the Streets – Baltimore wrestlers, this tournament concludes the wrestling season that began in November 2013. While students have had numerous opportunities to compete in dual meets with rival schools, this tournament will be the largest and most exciting competition of the season. “Hopefully we can use this tournament to generate excitement for our off-season tournaments and summer programs. I believe if we can keep our kids engaged until then we can continue with the progress they have already made, which will lead us to an even better 2014-2015 season. This is an exciting time.” Hermondoz Thompson, Co-founder About Beat the Streets – Baltimore Beat the Streets – Baltimore is a non-profit organization that creates after school wrestling programs for Baltimore City middle and high school students.
