Bay Area friends, todays Your Call was about the first ReelAbilities: Disabilities Film Festival happening this week in Oakland and San Francisco. Several incredible films will be shown, including Crooked Beauty, a poetic documentary that chronicles artist-activist Jacks McNamaras transformative journey from childhood abuse to psych ward patient to pioneering mental health advocacy. In the film, she talks about how hard it is to fit in a system that was not designed for someone with a spirit like mine. - A lot of people who get labeled mentally ill in our society have broken hearts…we need to stop saying, You are crazy. Stop being crazy. We need to stop putting all the focus and treatment on how can we make you stop being the person you are.
